Change Your Systems, Change Your Life

Most people try to change their lives by changing their goals. Few people change their lives by changing their systems.

A goal is something you hope to achieve.A system is what you do every day whether you feel like it or not.

Want to become healthier? Build a system. Want to improve your finances? Build a system. Want a stronger marriage?
Build a system. Want to learn a new skill?
Build a system.

The problem is not that most people lack ambition. The problem is that ambition without structure depends on motivation, and motivation comes and goes.

Systems continue working long after motivation has disappeared. The best systems reduce the number of decisions you have to make.

You do not rise to the level of your intentions. You rise to the level of your habits.

A person who reads ten pages a day will eventually finish books. A person who saves a small amount from every paycheck will eventually build wealth. A person who spends time each day learning will eventually develop expertise.

At first, the results are invisible. You won’t notice the difference after one day. You may not notice it after one month.

But give it a year. The person who trusted the process will be living a completely different life from the person who relied on motivation alone.

Success is rarely a single breakthrough. More often, it is a well-designed system repeated consistently over time.

If there is a part of your life you want to change, stop asking: “What is my goal?”Start asking: “What system would make this outcome inevitable?” Because the life you want is not built in a day.

It is built daily.
